    La fine del mondo inizia con l'Apocalisse silenziosa. The Long Dark è un gioco di sopravvivenza ed esplorazione in prima persona senza zombie o robot assassini. Invece, sei tu contro il rigido inverno canadese, lottando per sopravvivere da solo in un ambiente freddo e ostile.

    The Long Dark mantiene un ritmo lento e meditativo, ma il pericolo è molto reale. Ogni giorno, devi mantenere le tue scorte di cibo e acqua, riposare a sufficienza e stare al caldo. È necessario esplorare i dintorni per scavare, raccogliere e cacciare ciò di cui si ha bisogno. In tutto questo, è necessario combattere contro lupi selvaggi, orsi e altre creature che possono darvi la caccia. Ha una modalità storia in cui si gioca alternativamente tra il pilota Will McKenzie e la sua estraniata moglie, la dottoressa Astrid Greenwood.
